Jack McCredie has spent the past 16 years at the University of California, Berkeley as the Chief Information Officer and Associate Vice Chancellor. Having retired 18 months ago, he now carries the title of emeritus. This status simply means that I‘m retired but allowed to continue using my former title to impress relatives and neighbors who wonder why I am walking the dog or answering the home phone while everyone else is at work The title, however, signifies that he wants to remain involved in the ongoing process of demonstrating how information technology can significantly improve research, learning, and the management of resources in higher education. He pursues this goal as a senior fellow of the EDUCAUSE Center for Applied Research (ECAR).
He participated in several of the early SIGUCCS conferences in St. Louis as an attendee, panel member, and presenter. More recently, he presented the keynote address at CSMS 2001 in St. Louis, and he made presentations at CSMS 2003 in Monterey and CSMS 2004 in Santa Fe. Jack believes strongly in on-going professional development, and he encouraged his staff to not only attend SIGUCCS events, but to actively participate in many facets of the organization.
Before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area, Jack was director of external research projects at Digital Equipment Corporation. Before moving to Boston he was president of EDUCOM. Prior to that assignment he spent several years at Carnegie Mellon University where he was a faculty member in computer science and then vice provost for information technology and planning.
This year he retired from the Internet2 Board of Trustees and before that he was a founding member of the Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California (CENIC). Currently he serves on the board of trustees of Chautauqua Institution in New York where he spends the three summer months.
John Lateulere is Executive Director of Information and Technology Services at Otterbein College in Westerville, OH. He attended his first SIGUCCS at Cincinnati in 1990 with the advice of his boss that the information is good but it is important to cultivate professional contacts. John has found many invaluable profes-sional contacts throughout the years and many have become good friends. He began volunteering as a member of the 1992 Cleveland Fall Conference. Since then, John has been a workshop presenter, frequent session chair, program co-chair for the Spring Management Symposium in 2000, and a member of the Spring Management Symposium committee since 2003.
Dr. Robert Paterson has been in the Information Technology field since 1985. He began as a user support specialist, served as Director of Academic Computing and then Dean for Computing and Telecommunications at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA. He has also been Executive Director of Information Technology at the University of San Francisco and Capital University in Columbus OH, and Chief Information Officer at Salem State College, in Salem, MA. Dr. Paterson has served on the EDUCAUSE Current Issues committee, the Seminar for Academic Comput-ing board; he was program chair of the SIGUCCS 1991 Fall Conference in Seattle, server on the SIGUCCS Board in numerous roles for almost 10 years and has been Chair of ACM SIGUCCS.
Dr. Paterson is presently Vice President for Information Technology, Planning and Research at Molloy College on New York’s Long Island. He manages all phases of academic, media, telecommunication and ad-ministrative support. He is also responsible for the college-wide planning efforts and institutional research. He has presented and published numerous papers on IT management in academic environments.
Dr. Paterson is an Avian Ecologist by training. He published on bird habitat selection and taught a wide range of Biology courses for 10 years before becoming involved in Information Technology.
